Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre
The Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre is a vibrant hub for maritime heritage operated by the Cowichan Wooden Boat Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich maritime history of the coast, with an emphasis on craftsmanship, especially that of wooden boats.
Founded in the 1980s as a wooden boat building workshop, it has evolved over the decades into a museum which includes the 100-meter heritage pier, providing stunning views and 3 exhibition pods. The Patio Portal is a new addition with tables, benches, chairs and a children’s play area. In addition to the exhibits and museum, the Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre holds wooden boat building courses for adults and children in its workshop, as well as offering other workshops, events, and kids camp.
The Society also operates Historic Marine Ways for the hauling and cleaning of boats and maintains a small fleet of traditional small craft.
